Date of entry into force:
November 12, 2011

The Law of Ukraine "On Conscription and Military Service" of March 25, 1992 regulates the legal relations between the state and the citizens of Ukraine in relation to the execution of their constitutional duty to protect the Motherland.

The Law envisages to amend part 3 of Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine "On Conscription and Military Service", excluding the provisions that envisage the existence and operation of military tribunals.

The Law presents a new version of part 3 of Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine "On Conscription and Military Service", according to which the term of military service can be extended under a new contract until the military serviceman reaches the maximum age of military service:
  • for military servicemen in private corps ranks – by 3 years;
  • for military servicemen in sergeant and top sergeant ranks – by 5 years;
  • for members of the officer corps – by 5 to 10 years.

For members of the officer corps entitled to long-service pension, the term of military service under a new contract can be extended on their request, by a term of 2 to 10 years, but not exceeding the maximum age of military service.

The Law nullifies the Resolution of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On Military Ranks of Judges of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of Ukraine" N3966-XII of February 21, 1994.
